July 2017

Hi Everyone - Happy Canada Day 150 !!!!  Are you surrounded by red and white today ??? Enjoy the celebrations.

Those of us in Ontario have been having an exceptionally wet Spring that seems to be lingering - personally this is better than the heat and humidity which I'm sure will find us before summer is over.

Registrations for the Fringe event have been coming in at a steady rate and some classes are getting close to being full - if you haven't sent your choices in yet, we suggest you do it soon to avoid being disappointed.

We are very excited about the event this year and are so pleased that Randy Houtz and Jane Eborall are making long distance treks to join us along with our other fabulous teachers. You don't want to miss this one.

New Exchange
Each exchange seems to be producing increasingly creative items. We have now completed 2 'bin there' projects, so the final 2 for this year will be the 'done tat' items.

Again we are getting you to stretch your imagination - this Done Tat requests that you make an item that showcases a technique you've had success with.
What will you choose ?
Maybe tatting around an object - a button or some bling. Do you love incorporating beads into your work?  Maybe you're a master of cluny, split rings or even some of the Houtz Brother challenges.
You've 'done tat', you can do it again !

Deadline Dates
Request to participate in this exchange needs to be received by July 10 (send a email to: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. with the word 'exchange' in the subject line)
The person you will be sending to with further instructions will be sent to you by July 15
The completed item needs to be its destination no later than September 30. If your partner is attending the Fringe event, you may bring it with you and deliver it in person
Once you commit to participate, please start tatting.

Happy tatting today and every day!

Hello Everyone - Happy International Tatting Day!

We thought we'd get this out early for our members who live in Australia and are already celebrating April 1st. We hope you have found a special project to work on today, even if only for a few minutes. We also hope that everyone is having a great time in Lodi this weekend at the Finger Lakes tatting seminar where 'Everything Is Coming Up Roses' (despite the fact that we did have snow again last night in Toronto!)

Sneak peek! The Fringe is beyond excited to announce our headlining teachers for September: Jane Eborall, Randy Houtz, Kaye Judt, Carolyn Groves, Diane Daiker, Karey Solomon and our amazing Canadian talents - Vicki Clarke,Norm Reid, Nathalie Vacaresse and Brenda Franklin. Start saving those loonies to join us. We can't wait !

New Exchange

The next exchange this year is to create a project instead of tossing something into the 'Bin'. So it's time to recycle. Is there some thread left on your shuttles that could be made into 'tats or splats' that could adorn clothing or stationery? is there a little bit of 'bling' that doesn't seem to have a home that could become the center of a piece of tatting or maybe one last bead left on a strand that needs a home.
After all of the creative ideas that people made in the first exchange - penguins, elephants, grizzly bears and even palm trees, this exchange is another challenge.

We are very aware of postage costs and since the exchange is global to Canada, the US, the UK, Denmark and Australia - if you wish a specific country, please let us know.

April 10 - send your name to the Fringe with the word EXCHANGE in the subject line (and a country if you wish)
April 15 - you will receive your recipient's name and other instructions
June 30 - all items should be at their destination - once you commit - please start tatting

If you have an event please let us know. We are also happy to assist with setting up a group in your area - just ask !

Please remember that all of these event require your support. Hard working volunteers devote their time and energy into events to make sure tatting is alive and well.

Happy tatting today and every day!

Happy New Year Everyone - It's hard to believe that it's 2017 already.

This year the Fringe has decided our theme will be: 'Bin there, done tat'. This makes us think of travel or having made or tried something in tatting. It opens the possibility of new adventures and being ever mindful of our environment and making us think before tossing items that could be repurposed.

Exchange

The first exchange this year is a word play on 'Bin There' - where have you travelled ? What have you seen ? Have you 'been there and got the T-shirt' ? Tat something that reminds you of a trip you've taken or wish that you could go on.
Maybe you'll chose flowers or wildlife or even something magical like the Eiffel Tower. As always, we hope you are inspired or curious - be creative.

Your request to participate needs to be received by January 13. Please send a NEW email with the subject line 'exchange' to: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
Your recipient's name will be sent to you by January 16
And please, the item you make must be received by your recipient no later than March 30

Postage is becoming more expensive and 'rules' about what can be sent without incurring higher charges keep changing.
We suggest trying to keep your item flat in an envelope.
