October 1, 2016

Hi Everyone,

We had a wonderful weekend in Cambridge. Our temporary location was spacious and bright. Our teachers were fabulous !
We welcomed back many of our familiar vendors and a couple of new ones who tempted the participants with their arrays of tatting supplies.
If you have any comments about the weekend, please send them to our Gmail account - we've heard people are saying nice things about us, and we'd like to read what you have to say.

We aren't aware of any more tatting events this year but plans are moving ahead for more fun next year - as we become aware of the dates - we'll let you know in the e-newsletters.

Final Exchange of 2016 - Thread is Cheaper than Therapy
What shall I make this time ?? Is there a motif that you especially enjoy making but have wondered what it would look like in different thread - perhaps a metallic, a different size, variegated or hand dyed. Since the holiday season is coming, please add a working length of the thread you used for your recipient to try - 10 meters/yards should suffice.

Dates
October 14 is the date to make your commitment to participate by sending to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. Please put the word EXCHANGE in the subject line.
October 17 you will receive the name and address of your recipient along with other necessary instructions.
All items must be received by December 31, 2016. Please start tatting as soon as you sign up - don't wait until December to start.
Remember times for postal travel are an entity unto themselves which continue to baffle us.

Another special event is a tatting retrospective at LACIS in Berkley CA Tatting Concept to Conceptual Art June 3, 2016 - April 1, 2017

Plan ahead - the Fringe weekend next year will be September 22 & 23, 2017 and our theme is: Bin There - Done Tat
There are also local drop-ins in some areas. The groups in Etobicoke, London and Niagara area are well attended and information about them can be found at www.fringetatters.ca

If you know about upcoming events or need help establishing a group in your area, please ask us.
Enjoy the change of season - for many of us, the longer nights and cooler weather are the perfect time to spend tatting.

July 1 - Happy Canada Day to us! 149 Years Young

Hi Everyone - well here comes summer - days to relax and tat or enjoy the beach (if you're lucky !)
We have some important news:
PLEASE NOTE - due to circumstances beyond our control, we will NOT have the use of the teaching space at the hotel in September.
We have been most fortunate to secure one of the Royal Canadian Legion Halls, a quick 7 minute drive from the hotel.   We are continuing to book rooms at the hotel for Thursday, Friday and Saturday night as required. A map has been attached to show the route - please save and print a copy if you're coming to Cambridge.
If you haven't sent in your registration for the event, please don't wait too long and check the website as some classes are already at their capacity and have been closed..
ALSO NOTE - in the event of a postal work stoppage, please scan and send your registration forms to www.fingetatters.ca to secure your classes and then follow up with the actual form and your payment.  If the strike is lengthy, payment at the door will be required.
THE NEXT EXCHANGE
This exchange is: Tatting Can Leave You in Stitches !  Hopefully you've not had to have medical stitches, tatting ones are much more pleasant to deal with.
What to make ? Do something using a variety of stitches, or stitches new to you - have you done split rings, split chains, Josephine rings, roll tatting, sets, 2 colour tatting ?
This is your chance to try something different.  It's always a challenge to come up with an idea - look on the internet, check your tatting books (if you have any) ... The project ... a motif or your choice of item, something to heal the itch of the stitch .......

Happy Summer Tatting from the Fringe (or winter tatting for our friends in the Southern Hemisphere)

Hello Everyone - Happy International Tatting Day.

Hope you have found a special project to work on today if even for only a few minutes.
It's been a tolerable winter here in Ontario and the see-saw weather of Spring is in full effect - in a word - unpredictable.
Some members of the Fringe Tatters are preparing for the trip to New York state to attend the Finger Lakes conference in another week and one of our members will be heading to Spokane for the Shuttle Birds weekend. It's exciting to go to these events and meet new people and experience the projects being taught.
The planning committee for the Fringe weekend is happy to announce that we have lined up our teachers for the Fall and the ideas submitted for their classes are wonderful.
Check the website www.fringetatters.ca in late May for photos and the registration form.
For those in the southern Ontario region, we are asking members to keep the Fringe in mind as you do your Spring cleaning - items that would be suitable for the raffle and auction we hold at the event would be appreciated.  if you have questions about this, please send them to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
We also have a limited number of our fund raising calendars still available.  There are 15 patterns from 15 different designers ranging from simple to complex.  The calendar is dated until December of this year.  A very good bargain at $ 20.  If you are interested, please send a request to our gmail - there is an option to use PayPal to purchase one.

New Exchange
In keeping with this year's theme that: Tatting is the Best Medicine - the project this time will be flowers !  It could be a 'get well card' with a bouquet tatted for decoration,
or you might choose to make some free standing flowers that could adorn clothing, or even try making a 3-D flower.
We are well aware of the cost of postage and if you want to send your flowers to a specific country - please let us know.  Items are exchanged with members in Canada, the US, England, Australia and Denmark.

Deadlines:

Happy Tatting from the Fringe

Happy New Year everyone!

Here it is 2016 already and lots of tatting events are springing up.
Hopefully you will be able to attend at least one of these amazing 'weekends'. It is so inspirational to be with creative teachers and fellow tatters. Add it to your 'to do' list.

A new year of tatting exchanges.
If you haven't participated in an exchange, this is another 'to do' for 2016.
We now have participants world-wide and it is so exciting to see the beautiful work of a tatter from Australia, Denmark, England, the US or here in Canada. We endeavor to make sure your beautiful work is sent to new people for each exchange.
This year our theme is: Tatting is the Best Medicine . It took some thinking to come up with interesting items to tat.
You can participate in one or all 4 exchanges throughout the year.

Winter can be long and make many people sad and blue. What better way to make a day cheerful, than to tat a blue SNOWFLAKE ! Why not challenge yourself this year by trying new techniques, adding beads
or trying that pattern that has always appealed to you.

If you wish to participate, please send a NEW email to: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. with the word 'exchange' in the subject line and any address change you may have had.
This MUST be received by January 10, 2016 to be included.
Your recipient's name will be emailed to you by January 15.
Your item needs to be in your recipient's hands no later than March 31.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask us.
