We’d like to thank all of you who stopped by our display at Gathering Threads in London May 13-14. Over the 2 days, Carlene, Deana, Ellan, Lorraine, Margaret, Nancy, Robert, Sylvia & Susan took turns demonstrating both shuttle and needle tatting, and handed out lots of membership hearts to inspire new tatters. It was encouraging to see how quickly some of you got the knot to “flip”. We heard many wonderful memories of tatted treasures from your ancestors.
One story in particular caught our attention, as it relates to the daunting task of starting that BIG project. You know – the one that will take months and months – possibly years to complete.
In this case, the grandfather was the tatter in the family. He started out tatting some coasters. After a while he had enough to join them together into placements. He continued tatting and soon had enough to make a table runner. Finally, after adding a few more coasters and placements he had enough for a table cloth!
So by breaking the BIG project into small manageable sections he was able to complete the task … plus use and enjoy the smaller coasters, placemats and runners along the way.
Maybe there is hope after all!
London, Ontario is the place to be next weekend for “Gathering Threads” – a multi-disciplinary fibre event organized by the Canadian Embroiderers’ Guild (London) to celebrate their 40th anniversary.
