Fun in Lodi, NY

2013/04/21

A big THANK YOU goes out to the Finger Lakes Tatting Group for hosting another super event – their 15th – last weekend.

There were lots of great classes, great shopping, great food, great people, and great fun!  It is wonderful to catch up with friends, and to hear of  on-line friends meeting face-to-face for the first time.

I know that the Canadian contingent always looks forward to this road trip each Spring – I’ve even marked my calendar for next April 4 – 6, 2014.

But in the meantime there are lots of tatting / lace events going on.
We try to keep a current list on our Tat Days page, and have just added a few more that we’ve recently heard about.
  • One is coming up in just a few weeks on May 4-5 at the Amherst Museum in Buffalo, NY where Karey Solomon is teaching a one-and-a-half day class on her “Field-of-Flowers Tatted Beaded Purse”.    There are other classes in Bucks Bobbin Lace and Battenberg Lace as well.   When you mail them your registration form please drop us a quick email and we’ll forward that to the event coordinators so that they can send you a list of materials and prep work as soon as possible.
  • The Great Lakes Lacers host their Annual Spring Fling in Michigan May 31 – June 2.
  • Tatting Takes Wing at the Palmetto Tat Days – September 6 – 7.
  • The Tatting Corner has a big surprise lined up for us at their 13th Annual Tatting Days October 24 – 26 …  The Shuttle Brothers will be there to teach!
See our Tat Days page for details and links to their websites.

And of course, don’t forget the Fringe’s Fall Into Tatting Weekend in Cambridge Ontario, September 27 – 28, 2013.  We are finalizing teachers and classes and hope to have the Registration Form posted on our website by the end of May. – Stay tuned !

Gearing Up for April Tatting Weekends

2013/02/02

Road trip!!!!

The Finger Lakes Tatting Group have a great lineup of Stars for their 15th annual tatting seminar on the weekend of April 12-14 in upstate New York.  Here is the invitation with class descriptions as well as the 2013 Registration Form.  Check out their website www.fingerlakestatting.com for  photos of class projects.

This year their theme is “Starring Tatting” and they will be auctioning a “Starry Night” quilt to benefit their new scholarship fund .  They still need stars to add to the quilt.  The stars should be tatted in size 20 or finer gold or yellow thread and leave the ends long (about 15 inches) for sewing them onto the quilt.  Then mail the tatted stars to the Finger Lakes Tatting Group (details on the invitation) before March 15.  Even if you are unable to attend the weekend this year, please consider contributing to this worthwhile cause.

Registration is also open for the Shuttlebirds tatting weekend April 19 – 20,  in Spokane Washington.   www.shuttlebirds.com   Will you be joining the “Angels Among Us”?

Happy New Year!

Just wanted to wish our tatting friends All the Best in 2013.

Hope you find lots of time for tatting, and that you’ll be able to join in the tatting events being scheduled for this year.

What a Weekend!

2012/10/08

On this the Canadian Thanksgiving, we’d like to thank everyone who came to Cambridge last weekend for our 2012 Tat Days.  It’s you that made is such a success!  We had a great time and hope that you did too.

We always welcome suggestions for improvement, so if you haven’t yet returned your 2012 – Fringe Survey, please do.  Your input is timely as we’ve already started planning for next year.  The hotel has been booked for September 27 & 28, 2013, so mark your calendars.

The tatting community is incredibly supportive, both of groups and individual efforts.  Tatting Drop-ins in London and Etobicoke continue.   Tatters are invited to visit Haliburton and drop-in on classes that Ruth & Lois are organizing.  We’re also working on something for the Cambridge / K-W area.  Stay tuned to our Tatting Drop-Ins page for details.

And don’t forget Jennifer Titus’ 12th Annual Tatting Day at the Tatting Corner in Greenfield, Indiana November 17, 2012.  Details and links on this and events organized by other groups are on our Tat Days page.

Have you heard about our latest Knotty Tatters Exchange?   It’s Bare Thread Tatting !  See our Exchanges Page for details.

Tatting in the News!

2012/07/27

Did you hear the news!

The August 6, 2012 issue of MACLEAN’S (Canada’s National Magazine) has a good article on Tatting in their Fashion section (page 83).  Click on this link to read the article.  http://www2.macleans.ca/2012/07/26/tatting-tales-not-just-for-grannies-any-more/

Joanne Latimer who wrote this feature story did contact the Fringe and did a LOT of research, spoke to a lot of people and had her eyes open to the craft that we all love so dearly.  Thank you Joanne for increasing awareness of us and what we do.

Joanne also wrote about Vicki Clarke who is teaching a 3-D high heel shoe class at our tat weekend in September.  Check out our Tat Days page for photos of this and the other great class projects.

Have you sent in your Registration Form yet?

We can hardly wait to see you in September!
