2011 Fringe Tatting Weekend – WOW !

2011/10/16

Thanks for making our September 2011 Tatting Weekend such a success!
We were thrilled at the number of people who joined in the fun.
A special thanks to our wonderful teachers for sharing great projects and new techniques with us.

We are starting to plan for next September and would appreciate your comments – whether or not you were able to attend this year’s event.  2011 – Fringe Survey indicates the type of feedback we are looking for … or just email your comments to FringeTatters@gmail.com

Our big Tatting Weekend might be over for this year, but the tatting continues.

The group in London have already had another Tatting Drop-In and are eagerly looking forward to the next one on November 19.
The Toronto group are also gearing up for their Drop-In on November 5.
See our  Tatting-Drop-Ins  page for details.
New tatters and want-to-be tatters WELCOME.

It’s September !!

2011/09/01

As you turned the calendar today to September, we hope that you thought “Great … the Fringe Tatting Weekend is just around the corner!  I’d better make sure that I’ve sent in my Registration Form.”

The tatting weekend is Friday September 23 – Saturday Septmeber 24, 2011 in Cambridge, Ontario - and the deadline for registration is September 9.

If you’re having difficulty deciding which classes to choose, check out  our Tat Days  page for photos of the projects.

Please use the registration form to indicate if you would like extra kits for the classes you are taking – or even for the ones that you can’t fit into your schedule.   Our teachers are gearing up, but need to know how many kits to prepare.

Karey is particularly excited to have found some really large marbles for her marble cosy class.  She’ll have kits (marble plus thread plus pre-strung beads) for a 25mm marble ($5), kits for a larger 35mm marble ($8), kits for an even larger 42mm marble ($10).  She’s even found 50mm marbles ($6 marble only).   Karey notes that these larger marbles are really hard to find  and since it’s important to use the exact  bead size quoted in order to get the pattern to work properly, people really do need the kit.

We’re also thrilled to invite you to a Tatting Drop-In at London’s  Carson Library the Saturday afternoon before our big weekend.   See our Tatting DropIns page for details.

Looking forward to seeing you soon.

The Fringe at Gathering Threads. May 13 & 14, 2011

2011/05/28

We’d like to thank all of you who stopped by our display at Gathering Threads in London May 13-14.  Over the 2 days, Carlene, Deana, Ellan, Lorraine, Margaret, Nancy, Robert, Sylvia & Susan took turns demonstrating both shuttle and needle tatting, and handed out lots of membership hearts to inspire new tatters.  It was encouraging to see how quickly some of you got the knot to “flip”.  We heard many wonderful memories of tatted treasures from your ancestors.

One story in particular caught our attention, as it relates to the daunting task of starting that BIG project.  You know – the one that will take months and months – possibly years to complete.

In this case, the grandfather was the tatter in the family.  He started out tatting some coasters.  After a while he had enough to join them together into placements.  He continued tatting and soon had enough to make a table runner.  Finally, after adding a few more coasters and placements he had enough for a table cloth!

So by breaking the BIG project into small manageable sections he was able to complete the task … plus use and enjoy the smaller coasters, placemats and runners along the way.

Maybe there is hope after all!

Gathering Threads – May 12-15, 2011
